First Spring??? flowers

For some strange reason the first Anemones are out, and it is not even winter yet.

Kittens - growing up

The kittens are so much fun to have around now. Raindrop is especially friendly and playful. Here are recent photos of Raindrop and Button.

Horse Painting - Final

All right... I decided to finish the painting off and not leave it where it was. I was able to fix the facial features that I was unhappy with and make some minor adjustments to the shadows.

This photo was taken this evening under fluorescent, so the picture quality is not the best. As soon as I can take a daylight photo I will.

Our kittens

We just have 3 cats now - Honey, the mother and two kittens, Button and Raindrop (Rainy for short). We may not be keeping Honey as she had a go at K. and scratched her on both eyelids with no more provocation than K. giving her a pat. She has been living wild for a year so she is still skittish and has also had a go at us and a visitor. So my step-mum may take her and give her a home. We are still thinking on that one. We really want to give her a chance.

The kittens have really settled in now.

Button and Raindrop have taken to sleeping on the dining chairs - too bad if we want to use them!

And all the cats love the new rugs we have put on the couch.

K. loves having the cats in the house - I'm quite happy for them to be outside during the day and in at night. They still sleep in the laundry, more because of Honey than the kittens, but they have good beds in there.

I didn't realise how much I missed a purring cat. We were without a cat for about 2-3 years. It's great to have them around.

Horse Painting WIP#4

So, finally back to painting again after sickies in the family - not me!

Not sure how much more I am going to do to this. I don't think I am going to work on it to make a sale as this was more an experiment to see if I could paint a horse, or at least it's head. The snout is still not right but close - it's not round enough and a little short.

I think I will find another horse I like the look of and do a full horse and see how that goes.

Horse Painting WIP#3

Did some more work on the background and started on the horse. I should finish this next Monday.

Kitten update 17

Today was our last day with all the kittens. With Honey away for her operation the kittens were very different, like they noticed us more without their mother there. I took K. to pre-school, did a bit of shopping and came home. I opened the back door and within minutes they were all there waiting to come in. They stayed in the lounge room all afternoon, and I even left them there sleeping when I went to pick K. up from pre-school. They've all been very friendly, so that bodes well for those that are off to find new homes - without mum they'll look for their affection elsewhere.

It is going to be so hard to take them away tomorrow. I think K. is going to cope better than me.

Horse Painting WIP#2

So, I managed to get to the Art centre to paint for a couple of hours today before taking Honey to the vet.

I worked on the background only today - didn't touch the horse at all. It is amazing how the background colour makes the horse stand out in the foreground. I really pleased with my progress.

Kitten update 16

Honey is at the vet's tonight and will be desexed tomorrow. They will microchip and give her her vaccinations too. I pick her up on Wednesday. And surrender the 4 kittens we are not keeping so they can find good homes. We have ummed and aahed about keeping Lollipop, but we just can't have four cats. Three is going to be a challenge, but we are happier keeping two kittens together. And if Honey doesn't work out - if she's too feral to settle down, we would still have two cats if we surrendered her. But that's down the track, we'll see how she settles back in after her op first.

The kittens continue to have fun in the backyard. Smudge and Button are watching K. swing back and forth on the swing. A couple of the kittens have even pounced towards her feet as she swings past.

The bird bath/water dish holds much fascination for all of the kittens. This is Gumdrop (we can now tell the Twins apart - yah!).

Lollipop continues to be very cute. As the only short-haired cat, she has a beautiful glossy coat.

I have now managed to get a couple of nice shots of Gumdrop. Here he is curled up inside, having just woken up from a nap.

Button has discovered how comfy K.'s Pooh Bear couch is - which doesn't bode well for the future. Katie thinks she will be able to keep the kittens off - we'll wait and see.

This was taken just after dinner - we couldn't believe it. From left, Oscar, Gumdrop and Raindrop.
